Currently, most libraries that have implemented technology have implemented electro-magnetic security systems that cannot and do not collect or transmit data! Further, there is not method of finding missing items within the library, and no method for performing rapid inventories.

The library industry is sweeping from electro-magnetic to UHF RFID technology, similar to how the phone industry has been swept to smart phones. UHF RFID is smart! Not only is security provided for at the doorway(s) to trigger alarms, flashing lights and/or video, additionally the books detected and the person removing the books/items is captured and updates the database. Further, UHF RFID solutions include the ability to rapidly inventory library books, periodicals, media and equipment, and to rapidly FIND 'missing' items via Portable RFID / Bar Code Scanner.
