The State of Arizona Crime Lab in Tucson, AZ is one of the most modern and extensive crime labs in the country, providing forensics testing of DNA, fingerprints, fire debris, explosives debris, toxicology and similar testing associated with evidence from major crimes. The data and test results documents resulting from lab tests is critical to court proceedings and must have a detailed chain-of-custody as required by lawyers and courts.

SmartTraxx software was developed with a parent (cases) and children (exams) schema, and prints side view color coded labels for any number of exams, and bar code tracking was implemented to detail every transfer of custody of every record. The lab also utilizes SmartTraxx to manage and track binders and the archiving of inactive exam folder and binders.

Now the Crime Lab has modern records management to compliment their leading-edge facility that became operational in 2011, and they can meet the Judges mandates for file folder accountability and chain-of-custody.
